The 1981 Inventions DRV2 introduces the new standard enclosure and circuit for the brand's iconic distortion pedal. Offering premium sound and a minimalist aesthetic, this updated architecture is engineered for exceptional clarity and distinct character across all gain levels. It excels at low-gain settings—delivering responsive, barely-clipping cleans—while easily driving into rich, mid-forward classic rock crunch and thick, near-fuzz saturation when maxed out.
Rather than replicating the original version exactly, this V2 circuit represents a complete, ground-up optimization. Co-engineered and redesigned by John Snyder of Electronic Audio Experiments (EAE), the updated layout delivers massive performance upgrades. The pedal is now significantly quieter with a reduced noise floor, boasts improved power efficiency, and offers expanded headroom with the capability to run at either 9V or up to 18V.
Additionally, an internal switch allows players to toggle between buffered and true-bypass operation to seamlessly integrate into any pedalboard setup.
Features:
- Redesigned Circuit: Engineered in collaboration with John Snyder of Electronic Audio Experiments (EAE).
- Wide Gain Range: Seamless transitions from clean boost to high-gain distortion and fuzz.
- Power Versatility: Runs on standard 9V (Boss-style) power supplies, with support up to 18V for increased headroom.
- Selectable Bypass: Features an internal switch to toggle true-bypass operation.
- Hand-Assembled: Built and tested in Nashville, TN.
Note: Requires a standard 9V DC isolated power supply (not included). Does not accept internal batteries.
